A Rough Start

S-Boogie started preschool on Monday this week. When we moved here last year, several people told me to get her signed up on the waiting list for the preschool program at UW. I did, and got a call earlier this year that she had been accepted. At the time things were really up in the air for us so I ended up turning them down. Then interest in the program was so high that they opened up a second classroom this year. S-Boogie got back in after all, and it turns out that nearly half the class is made up of her friends from church (and they all live here in student housing with us).

The program is really nice: she goes to school every day, she gets to ride a bus, and they feed her lunch. During the entire sign-up process I neglected to ask how many days a week the school was, so I was a little surprised to find out that it was every day. S-Boogie is also one of the youngest in her class, because the cut-off date for school here is the end of August. Some of her friends are nearly a year older than her, and since she's small for her age the difference really shows. Luckily she's very social and outgoing and has been loving school every day so far.

Despite the start of school, however, this has ended up being a bit of a rough week for us. Monday morning S-Boogie woke up bright and early, and was disappointed to realize that she had to wait three hours for the bus. Then the school called to let us know that they were having trouble finalizing the bus schedule, so we would need to bring S-Boogie to school ourselves. Then she had an accident right at the moment we needed to leave to get in the car. Luckily the accident was in the bathroom, but it soiled her Halloween pants and her Dora socks, thus precipitating horrible trauma. We got cleaned up fast and ran out to the parking lot. We were surprised by a yellow bus waiting for us, so S-Boogie got to ride to school in style after all.

School has been going well, thankfully. As for the rest of us, well, things could be better. Mr. Fob has caught bronchitis from the tail end of the flu and has been coughing his lungs up for two days now. I'm still trying to get the school to produce a contract for me so I know I'll get paid (that's what happens when you get hired last-minute). And Little Dude decided to top things off by losing my CD that contains all the exams and quizzes I need to give this quarter. At least we're supposed to get cable tomorrow. Maybe that will help.

Oooh...I hope you find that cd, and definitely keep after the school for that contract. They usually end up paying just fine--but late--which messes all the budgeting up.

I hope this semester goes well for all of you.

What a week! How exciting for S-Boogie to be in preschool! Especially with her friends from church - hopefully it's a good group that will continue to treat her well.

Good luck with the red tape and finding that CD! And hopefully Mr. Fob retains enough of his lungs to still enjoy life.

I seriously hope you didn't miss the cable guy and that Mr Fob is better and no longer hacking soon.
