Productive

This morning I made a batch of granola, swept and vacuumed the floors, and applied for three different jobs. Then this afternoon I made some chocolate chip cookies as well as a yummy, healthy dinner. And I've taken care of a bunch of random odds and ends throughout the day. Plus the kids both got baths and were in bed asleep by eight o'clock (they both got up at seven this morning so they were pretty tired out). I like to be busy and have things to do; the job search is making me antsy because I have this desire to get my life in order and to be doing something. My thesis is more or less done and it is now in the hands of my committee to schedule a defense date (reminder to self: do some emailing on that one). I know it will take a little time to find myself a good job, but I've been spending a lot of time looking around and finding some good possibilities. In the meantime, I should just relax and enjoy my free time because I won't get very many more days like today in the future. Now if I could only get the weather to warm up so we can play outside...

I have heard that right now unemployment is really low. I don't know if that's just in Utah or if it's nationwide. Anyway, I hope that you are successful in finding a job that works for you! I hate the job hunting process just for the fact that you don't know where you're going to end up. I hope that the process is over quickly for you! Good luck!

The Truth Comes Out

I have a problem when it comes to buying shoes. Well, it's actually a problem with buying clothing in general. I'm cheap. Very cheap. I tend to have arbitrary price limits in my head and refuse to buy anything that costs more than that. This does come in handy considering our limited funds for things like clothing and shoes, but it also means that I tend to have a wardrobe of odd, non-matching, ill-fitting clothes. While it's true that I have found some great things at thrift stores and on clearance, I definitely have other clothes that are just plain lame. Living with ideals

The first thing on my agenda in Davis was a lunch with some of the current graduate students. One of them asked me a question about my last name and my heritage, to which I replied that it was my husband's last name. That got me some fairly strange looks. Then there was the fact that I didn't order coffee after lunch with all of them. And then there was the awkwardness (more than once during the last few days) of trying to explain why I lived in Spain for over a year and didn't see any movies, go to any plays, or study at the university. Oh, and the fact that I don't drink wine and even though I'm not quite thirty I have been married for almost seven years and have two kids. Man, I am such a weirdo. I lived in Utah for so long that I became very comfortable in not having people think some of the things I do are strange.
