Moving Sucks!

So far I've had one guy tell me I'm nuts for trying to find an apartment long distance, a lady who didn't really speak English and couldn't understand renting from out of state, and another guy who politely told us there was no way he'd rent to people with kids. At least we still have four more weeks to find something...

Yeah, I had some trouble with that when Lunk and I moved. It may not be as practical, since you have children, but I found a place with a 3-month and then month-to-month lease where we've been staying until we find something we like better. But then, you have to move everything again...

Also, on apartments.com, I found a few listings that just said they had a bunch of listings in a certain city/area and then they had a phone number. When I called, it turned out they were services that, for $60-90 would find what you're looking for and help you get it (and, if there's an application fee, it gets waived for going through these particular people). I don't know how practical that is for you guys, but if you can afford it, it might be worth it.

In Florida you can get an apartment realtor and you don't pay them, the complex does. But a complex might not be the cheapest option either.

I am consistently amazed at how many people don't speak English as a 1st language in the US and then how rude people outside of Happy Valley can be about children. I hope you can find something soon.

You don't know me (don't worry, I'm not a freak), but after moving a year ago 'cross country, I have two bits I feel like sharing. We were able to find an apartment to live in in IN while we were still in UT...but we wouldn't have been able to do so without the help of our future ward. The people were a HUGE HELP and they didn't even know us (or whether we'd actually live in their ward boundaries). We basically talked with our UT bishop to get the contact info of the wards where we'd be moving and we got in touch with people there and got lots of help from them...one RS pres actually volunteered to go talk with the management at one complex and get a tour and then called us the next day to give us the low-down (we ended up moving there). Anyway, yeah...I'm rambling, but the church is a wonderful resource.
