You'd better watch out

Over the last few years, I have suddenly become aware that there are gay people in the world (if anyone here also reads Master Fob's blog, you will know why). I honestly don't remember thinking much about gay people during high school or even my first few years at school before my mission. I went to high school back when it wasn't that cool to admit to being gay, and most people at my school were members of ethnic groups that still don't think it's very cool to be gay (don't mean to be racist, but it's still mostly OK to be white and gay, but not Samoan and gay). So yeah, didn't think about it, and I honestly didn't care that much.

But, now that it's become more of a personal issue for me, I have to confess that I spend way too much time lately fixing up my "gaydar" and trying to figure out who just might be hiding something. Especially since I live in an environment where very few people are out and most are hiding way in the back of the closet.

For instance, I have this professor that I really wonder about. A lot. I'm dying to know if he is or isn't. I don't think I should even describe him, but if you knew him, you'd wonder too. The thing is, it's not anything malicious or anything. I actually would love to know just so I could talk to him about it and maybe offer some sympathy about things. I like him a lot, so it really is just a curious concern sort of thing. Also, there are these two old ladies at church that have lived together for years (both have never married). They act like they are way more than roommates, and even refer to each other with things like "my dear companion". I'm pretty sure there's nothing sexual about their relationship, but I'm curious about them. I wonder what's going on in their heads and how they feel about their friendship. Maybe there really will be polygamy in heaven and they can be sister wives or something. That would be nice.

So, that's my confession for the day. I just might be analyzing you, so maybe you should put down your violin and go play some rugby.

But what if I want to play the violin while I'm playing rugby? Damn you!

ooo... I'm gonna get judged!! What should I wear?
Oh, great. Now I'm going to be paranoid about everything I do, lest you think I'm some sort of queer.

Miss R had a preschool teacher who I *knew* was gay. He wore a ring on his right hand, when Miss R asked if he was married and he got all fumbly and lied to her. I was so dissapointed to learn that and always wanted to talk to him about it. I wanted him to know that he could tell her he was gay and that it was okay. I never knew how to talk to him about it, and was terrified to bring it up in case he said "I'm not gay" ya know?!

Many gay men play rugby.

Not that I know of anyone personally or anything.

If I were a gay man, I'd be all over playing rugby. Rugby players are HOT. Short shorts, big muscles. All that running and diving all over each other. I enjoy watching rugby because it is so masculine. mmmm...

Not if you're a girl, though. Girl rugby players are scary. Boy rugby players are strangely attractive. They both drink like fish.
